Suspect in fatal hit-and-run in Bradenton released from jail after posting bond

MANATEE -- The woman charged in the death of a Southeast High School student in a hit-and-run accident was released from jail today after she posted bonds totaling $15,000.

Kim Marie Leto, 50, is charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Brenden Edward Barnes, 15, a student at Southeast High School, was killed after he and friend Samuel E. Garvin, 16, a student at Booker High School, were hit by a car while walking west in a bike lane near the intersection of Whitfield and Tuttle avenues Saturday around 10:15 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Garvin, who is at Manatee Memorial Hospital suffering from a broken leg and injured foot, had dragged himself off the dark road after being hit by the car, fearing he would be hit again by oncoming traffic, said his mother Jamae Garvin, during an interview at the hospital Sunday.
