Bradenton man faces drug charges after home invasion at his home

MANATEE — An occupant of a Bayshore Gardens house hit by a home invasion early this morning was arrested after deputies found marijuana scattered throughout the home, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Two hooded men, at least one of whom was carrying a handgun, forced their way into the home in the 1400 block of Dartmouth Drive at about 12:10 a.m. As they moved through the house, the suspects were calling out for "Mike," according to a news release.

When Mike Wheeler heard the commotion outside his room, he broke out a window to his room and fled to a neighbor's house, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspects then fled and were not located, but deputies arrested Wheeler after they saw marijuana and drug paraphernalia scattered throughout the house. They also found 72 oxycodone pills, in addition to more than 50 grams of marijuana, according to the release.

Wheeler, 20, was being held t the Manatee County jail on drug trafficking and other charges. His bonds totaled $3,620.
