Collision leaves 1 dead, 1 injured in Bradenton

BRADENTON -- A man was pronounced dead on scene after the white SUV he was driving collided with a car on State Road 64 East on Wednesday, the Bradenton Police Department said.

A female driver of a gray Chevy Cobalt was also airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

The accident occurred at about 2:52 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 64 East and 29th Street East. Eastbound traffic on State Road 64 was stalled for about an hour.

Although the cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to Capt. Russell Tibbitts, investigators have determined both vehicles were heading in opposite directions and one of them struck a speed limit sign during the incident.

The condition of the female driver was unknown, Tibbitts said.

Anyone with information about the crash can call Sgt. Brian Thiers at (941) 932-9318.
