MANATEE — A man hit with a sheriff's deputy Taser early Thursday was found to be carrying a loaded handgun, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies had stopped Eric Deshawn Dudley, 20, about 4:37 a.m. for a bicycle violation and when they noticed a bulge in his coat, they tried to frisk him. Dudley fled on foot but tripped. As he continued to resist, a deputy shot him with his Taser, according to a news release.
During a subsequent search, deputies found a loaded 9mm handgun, according to the sheriff's office.
Dudley suffered minor scratches due to the fall but because of his heavy coat, the Taser's prongs never hit his skin, according to the sheriff's office.
Dudley was in the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $5,750. He faces charges of weapons possession by a felon and resisting arrest.
