Palmetto driver nearly hits deputy on traffic stop, charged with DUI

MANATEE -- A Palmetto woman was arrested Wednesday night after the vehicle she was driving drifted off the road, struck the driver’s side door of a pulled-over vehicle and grazed the back of a deputy conducting the stop, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Lyubov Mazur was arrested and is facing charges of driving under the influence with property damage and leaving the scene, a media release stated. The deputy was uninjured and was able to return to work. After striking the vehicle, in the 1500 block of Ellenton-Gillette Road at around 9:15 p.m., Mazur stopped “down the road and got out to check her vehicle,” the release stated. She then looked back at authorities and “got back into her vehicle, driving away from the scene.”

Another deputy stopped Mazur’s black Pontiac shortly thereafter. The release stated, “It was very clear that she was intoxicated.”

She later blew alcohol readings of .175 and .168, according to the release, both figures twice Florida’s legal limit. According to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles website, the legal limit is .08.

Mazur was being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $9,000 on two charges of driving while intoxicated with property damage and a charge of failure to stop.
