Man injured fighting off robbery try in Bradenton

MANATEE — A 25-year-old man was injured early this morning while fighting off a robbery attempt outside his Bradenton apartment, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The man had just arrived home about 12:30 a.m. at the Center Court Apartments, 4239 52nd Place West. As he was walking to his apartment, he dropped a pack of cigarettes. As he was rising after picking them up, he was struck in the face and knocked back, according to a news release.

The assailant demanded the victim's wallet, and a struggle ensued. During the fight, the victim told deputies he felt his leg being "punched," a news release states.

Eventually, the suspect fled to the east, taking nothing.

Moments later, the victim realized his leg was bleeding, so his girlfriend took him to Blake Medical Center for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.
