Large crowd at movie theater as men are arrested

BRADENTON - A large crowd gathered at the Royal Palm movie theater Christmas night after two men were arrested in battery, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called to the scene and found that two men had battered a man and his wife. A large crowd of more than 100 people were watching the disturbance, deputies said. Law enforcement officers stayed on the scene after the arrests. A deputy asked one man to leave several times and when he declined, the deputy attempted to arrest him and he resisted with violence, struck the deputy and was arrested, reports said.

A relative of the man tried to intervene and she also was arrested, deputies said. Another man also intervened and refused to leave and hit the deputy in the arm. By the end of the arrests, more than 300 people had gathered. The manager of the movie theater then closed the theater and everyone was cleared from the property, reports said.

No injuries were reported. Victims of the original battery sustained minor injuries, deputies said.
