Police investigate drive-by shooting in Palmetto

PALMETTO -- A family was awakened early today to find that their house on 23rd Street East had been shot up, according to a police report.

Everyone was sleeping around 2:30 a.m. when a woman heard a loud noise. Fearing someone was trying to break in, she woke up her husband, the report stated. He went outside to investigate, discovered that his house had been shot up and called police.

Someone had shot the house and the vehicle in the driveway several times with a shotgun and a handgun, police reported. Eight people, including children, were inside the home at the time of the shooting; no one was injured.

Several bullet fragments have been recovered inside and outside of the residence.
