Knife-wielding intruder robs Myakka City home

MYAKKA CITY -- A thief stole jewelry during an armed break-in at a residence in Myakka City this afternoon, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A 15-year-boy was confronted about 2:45 p.m. in his home in the 24000 block of 83rd Avenue East by a suspect described as a teenager armed with a knife. When the suspect, who had somehow forced the front door open, asked where the jewelry was kept and showed the weapon, the boy took him to his parents' bedroom and showed him a dresser where he said there was jewelry, according to a news release.

The suspect also asked the victim of there was any medicine in the house, and the victim said there was just an inhaler. The suspect then pulled out a $20 bill and tossed it on the floor, telling the boy he was not there to hurt him, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect then took some jewelry, left the house, got into a white vehicle and drove away, according to the sheriff's office.

No one was hurt.
