Man charged with passing fake prescriptions in Manatee

MANATEE — A man remains in jail after he was arrested on nine charges of passing fraudulent prescriptions at various pharmacies.

Joshua Baker, 28, was arrested over the weekend on several warrants after he passed numerous prescriptions from three different doctors he never visited, according to reports.

Pharmacists, who examined the prescriptions, contacted authorities after they verified the prescriptions for alprazolam, oxycodone and roxicodone were fraudulent. In one case, Baker fled from a pharmacy after he was told police were on the way, according to reports.

Nearly 500 arrests have been made by local authorities this year for prescription drug crimes, according to statistics from Bradenton Police Department and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Baker has a $53,000 bond set and has a hold placed on him at the jail.
