Man claims mechanic left crack pipe in his car in Manatee

MANATEE — A 40-year-old man was arrested on drug related charges Thursday night after he was initially issued a warning for not driving with a seat belt and having an unreadable tag, the sheriff’s office reports.

William James McKinley was issued a verbal warning for driving without a seat belt and written a warning for his tag when he was pulled over in the 500 block of 10th Street East at around midnight.

According to his arrest report, a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle lead a deputy to ask if there was anything in the vehicle he should know about.

McKinley replied that “a mechanic left a crack pipe in the middle console two weeks ago,” the report said. McKinley then opened then handed the deputy the pipe and told him he also had marijuana in the console as well.

The report said McKinley handed over about 3.7 grams of cannabis to the deputy and stated he had sockets that were used to smoke crack in his right pocket.

McKinley has been charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. He is currently in Manatee County jail on a $240 bond.
