Manatee stabbing victim ID’s his alleged attacker

MANATEE -- A 20-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a stabbing victim said he was 100 percent sure he was the person who attacked him, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The victim had been stabbed five times in the back, one of the stab wounds entering his lung, the report stated. The victim stated Jacob Stephen Gennell lured him outside and, once alone, hit him over the head with a baseball bat.

Later, the victim discovered he had been stabbed.

While at the sheriff’s office, Gennell attempted to escape out the door when he was allowed to use the restroom, the report said. He was captured by officers following a foot chase.

Gennell has been charged with escape and causing great bodily harm by stabbing. He was being held in the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $35,000.
