Palmetto police seeking suspect in beating, robbery

PALMETTO -- The Palmetto Police Department says it has obtained an arrest warrant charging a suspect with beating and robbing a 63-year-old man last month.

The victim was attacked on Nov. 3 in the 500 block of 12th Street West, suffering a serious head injury that has since left him hospitalized, according to police.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant charging Mariano Betancourt, 23, with armed robbery and attempted murder, but they have not been able to locate him, according to a news release.

Betancourt stands about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He has been known to have a slight goatee and wears his hair short.

He has numerous tattoos, including the word, "Miracle" on his chest, according to police.
