BRADENTON -- Bradenton police are investigating the theft of 12 air conditioners since Nov. 3, according to a news release issued this morning.
The units have been taken from the exterior of homes in an area bounded by 29th Avenue West on the north; Ninth Avenue West on the south; 30th Street West on the east; and 53rd Street West on the west.
The thefts occurred in the early morning hours from 4 to 6 .m. A majority of the homes are vacant and/or in the process of foreclosure, according to police.
A new model red pick up truck occupied by two men has been seen in the area of the thefts as well as a white utility type pick- up work truck. Detectives believe that the thieves are stealing the air-conditioning units and selling the parts for scrap, according to police.
Police asked that anyone seeing anything suspicious to immediately contact authorities.
