MANATEE -- Two teenagers were charged with burglary after they told deputies they had stolen several items from the Red Barn Flea Market in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The suspects, ages 14 and 17, were walking in the 1600 block of U.S. 301 near the Red Barn about 3:42 a.m. when they were stopped by a deputy because it appeared one of the teens was carrying large bolt cutters in a backpack. The object turned out to be hedge clippers, according to a news release.
The deputy questioned the teens and was given conflicting accounts about what they were doing. The deputy received permission to search the backpack and found several suspicious items, including a bag of oranges, three packs of lighters, tape, mouthwash and a file, according to the report.
After they were read their rights, the teens admitted they had climbed over a fence at the Red Barn and stolen the items from various locations inside. "The suspects were cooperative and were taken back to the flea market to show deputies where they took items from," the release states.
