Neighbor’s vigilance leads to two arrests in Bradenton

MANATEE — When a woman saw a man trying to break into her neighbor’s cars Tuesday afternoon she immediately called 911, a call that lead to the suspect and his girlfriend’s arrest, the sheriff’s office reports.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 5500 block of 82nd Avenue East, in the Thousand Oaks subdivision when the neighbor witnessed the 21-year-old suspect, Frankel Valentin, attempting, and failing, to break into two vehicles, according to an arrest report.

Deputies were able to locate Valentin walking with his girlfriend Samantha Gardner, 19, from a description provided by the witness, the report said. The couple was detained and the witness identified Valentin as the person she saw pulling on the door handles.

After being read her rights Gardner stated that she was never in the subdivision and wasn’t going to “snitch” on her boyfriend by telling deputies why he was in the neighborhood, according to the report. Gardner said she was waiting on Erie Road and that they had been walking to a gas station.

Valentin denied being in the area after he was read his rights, the report said. Deputies located four cell phones, a gold chain and gold watch in Valentin’s pocket during a search. Valentin claimed the items belonged to him.

Gardner was charged with being an accessory to burglary and is being held in Manatee County jail on a $2,500 bond.

Valentin has been charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools with intent to use. He is being held in Manatee County jail on a $3,250 bond.
