MANATEE -- A 33-year-old convicted sexual predator was arrested today on charges he violated his parole, barely a week after his most recent release from prison, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Two deputies, Cindy Evers and Wayne Young, arrested Clarence Leroy Oliver within 90 minutes of receiving word that he was wanted. The arrest occurred in the area of 34th Avenue West and Third Street West, according to the sheriff's office.
Oliver, who had been released from prison on Nov. 23 and registered with the sheriff's sex offender unit the next day, was being held at the Manatee County jail without bond.
Oliver had been released from state prison after serving more than 33 months for failing to properly register as a sex offender, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website.
In June 1996, he had been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison in Manatee County on charges of attempted sexual battery on a child under age 12 and lewd and lascivious assault/sexual battery on a child under 16.
He was released in December 2006, only to be sent back to prison in February 2008 when he was sentenced to more than four years in prison for failing to properly register as a sexual predator, according to the Department of Corrections.
The sheriff's office did not have information on how Oliver most recently had violated his parole.
