Man gets robbed by a friend in Bradenton

MANATEE — A 51-year-old homeless man was robbed at gunpoint Saturday afternoon when he asked a friend for a ride down the road, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The incident occurred in the 6000 block of 26th Street West at around 2:40 p.m. The victim asked for a ride down 26th Street West to Cortez Road.

When the victim climbed into the back seat of the truck, his friend turned around, pointed a small silver automatic hand gun at the victim’s chest and said, “Home Depot this ain’t no joke, give me the money,” the release stated.

The victim then handed $380 to the suspect and exited the truck that was driven by another person, the release said. The truck fled east on 60th Avenue West.

About five to 10 minutes, the victim called 911 from the phone of a woman who happened to be in the area. The release said the woman stated she saw the victim talking to the suspects but did not see any criminal activity.

The area was searched, according to the release, but deputies could not find the suspects who are described to be 23 to 26-years-old, wearing dark clothes and driving a green Dodge 1500.

According to the release the passengers are possibly five feet nine inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. The driver is the same height and about 160 pounds.
