Manatee sheriff: Suspect admits using baseball bat to beat man

MANATEE — A 52-year-old man was arrested this morning after he admitted to deputies that he had beaten another man with a baseball bat, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 2:36 a.m., deputies responded to the 2900 block of First Street East and found the victim bleeding heavily from the face.

The suspect, Roy T. Harris, said he had beaten the man, an account confirmed by three witnesses, according to the sheriff's office. He was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail on a charge of aggravated battery.

The 29-year-old victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with severe facial injuries and a drop in blood pressure, according to a news release.
