MANATEE — Three people sustained serious injuries when two sport utility vehicles collided at the intersection of State Road 70 and Braden Run at 6:45 p.m. Monday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
A 37-year-old Lakewood Ranch woman driving a Honda SUV ran a red light at the intersection while heading east on State Road 70, according to troopers. She was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center with minor injuries and cited for violation of a traffic control device.
Her SUV collided with a Ford SUV driven by a 56-year-old Bradenton man who was stopped facing north at Braden Run when he proceeded through the intersection on a green light and was struck by the Honda.
He was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries. A passenger in the Ford was also transported to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
The Ford Explorer, whose driver’s door seemed to be hanging by a thread, had a driver and passenger while the Honda just had a driver, according to FHP.
None of the injuries were considered life threatening.
There were no skid marks on the roadway.
