MYAKKA CITY -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office started an animal neglect investigation after deputies found a sick goat at a residence in Myakka City.
Someone complained to the sheriff's office that two goats had recently died at a location in the 40000 block of State Road 64 East and a third goat was sick, according to a news release.
When deputies arrived about 8:30 a.m. today, there was no one home. They did find a small goat that was unable to stand on its own and was lying in its own feces. A deputy took the goat to a veterinarian's office, where it died, according to the sheriff's office.
The owner of the animal was unknown, but an investigation was continuing. The cause of death has not been determined, pending test results from the veterinarian.
