MANATEE -- Two masked gunmen broke into a residence early this morning and robbed a family of some jewelry, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The suspects kicked in the door of a home in the 5800 block of Seventh Street East about 3:20 a.m. They held the residents -- two adults and three children -- at gunpoint and demanded money. "After rummaging through a closet, the suspects fled after taking some jewelry that belonged to one of the victim's baby," a news release states.
The suspects were described as wearing ski masks and carrying rifles.
No shots were fired and no one was hurt.
The robbery had similar suspects in a robbery and beating of two men that happened a few hours earlier in the 600 block of 60th Avenue Drive East.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow said detectives are investigating whether the robberies were connected.
Anyone with any information about either case can contact the sheriff’s office at 747-3011 or remain anonymous and possibly become eligible for a cash reward by calling Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS (8477).
