MANATEE -- Two would-be bicycle-riding thieves, including one armed with a gun, were thwarted when two women they tried to rob refuse to hand over their purses, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The two women, ages 59 and 66, were walking north in the 300 block of 31st Street West about 3:15 p.m. Sunday, when they were approached by two suspects riding bicycles. One of the bike-riders pulled a gun on the women and demanded they hand over their purses, according to a news release.
The younger woman refused and hit the suspect with the gun with a cart she had been pushing. The other woman also refused to hand over her purse, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspects then fled south on their bicycles, according to the report.
