Sheriff: Suspect in Manatee home invasion arrested

MANATEE -- A suspect in a July 4 home invasion and shooting has been arrested, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victims identified James L. Davis, 31, as being one of the suspects who robbed them and shot their dogs during a robbery in the 1300 block of 59th Avenue East, according to a news release.

A woman told investigators she was walking her dog near the front of the residence when the suspects stormed the house, ordering them to lie on the floor. The suspects then shot two dogs, killing one and injuring the other, according to the sheriff's office.

The victims were not hurt.

Davis is charged with home invasion with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault and torture to an animal. He was being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $206,000.
