Gunmen rob couple at Manatee apartment complex

MANATEE — Two masked gunmen robbed a man and a woman at a Manatee apartment complex late Sunday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 10:20 p.m., the couple were walking up the stairs at an apartment complex in the 3500 block 14th Street West when they were approached by two men One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the man and the other suspect ran up the stairs, according to a news release.

The suspect grabbed the woman from behind and covered her mouth with his hand. They took the victim's backpack and $500 and tossed the victim's keys into a grassy area on the other side of the parking lot, the sheriff's office said.

The suspects fled the scene by heading east through the parking lot on foot.

Neither victim was injured.

The sheriff's office described the suspects as standing about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. They were wearing all black clothing, including masks and gloves.
