Bradenton man shot at while awaiting acquaintance

MANATEE — A Bradenton man avoided injury when a suspect shot a handgun twice at him and missed both times.

The incident occurred at 3:25 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of First Avenue East, Palmetto.

The victim was parked awaiting an acquaintance who was supposed to be meeting him there, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The victim noticed a dark-colored, newer model Buick or similar car drove by twice and stopped.

The victim thought it was the acquaintance he was supposed to be meeting, so he got out of his vehicle.

As he did so, the suspect got out of his car, approached the victim and fired two shots from a handgun at him, the report states.

The victim fled westbound between houses and called 911 while the suspect fled northbound toward 17th Street East.

Two shell casings were collected as evidence. The area was searched but the suspect was not found.
