MANATEE -- A woman was beaten with a gun when she refused to hand over her jewelry to two assailants early this morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
About 2:30 a.m., the women was walking behind a store in the 4000 block of 14th Street West when she was approached from behind and heard someone say, "Give me your jewelry," a news release states. She turned around and saw two men, one of whom was holding a silver handgun.
The woman refused, and the gunman struck her in the back of the head with the gun. She fell to the ground and both men struck her several times with their fists, according to the sheriff's office.
The woman said she heard sirens in the distance and the men quit hitting her. They then left in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman then walked to a girlfriend's house and did not call authorities. But later she went to a hospital, from where the sheriff's office was called, according to the release.
The sheriff's office described the suspects as being in their 20s.
