Bradenton woman dies in I-75 accident

MANATEE -- A 46-year-old Bradenton woman died after the van she was riding in on Interstate 75 lost a tire and overturned, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Juana Martinez and eight other people were riding in the van when the accident happened at 9:40 p.m. Saturday near North Port. Seven of the others suffered minor injuries, and a 20-year-old Sarasota woman was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with what were described as serious injuries, according to FHP.

According to an FHP report, the left rear tire of the northbound 2005 Ford van had a tread separation. The driver lost control, the van began to veer clockwise as it ran across the nortbound lanes, hit the outside shoulder and overturned, ejecting one of the passengers. While overturning, the van traveled through a wooded area before coming to a stop, according to FHP.
