Sheriff: Manatee man holds off home invaders

MANATEE -- A Manatee man was able to hold off two armed intruders at his apartment early this morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:19 a.m., the resident was alerted to repeated knocks on the door of his home at the Conquistador Village Apartment, 3500 36th Street West, Bradenton. When he opened the door, the resident saw a man who asked to borrow his cell phone, according to a news release.

"After the third request for the phone, the unknown male suspect jumped into view and pointed a black semiautomatic pistol at the victim," a news release states.

The victim tried to close the door, and the suspects tried to make their way inside. The resident was eventually able to shut the door, and the suspects fled in an unknown direction.

The first suspect was described as wearing a black shirt and red shorts. The second suspect was described as wearing a white over black shirt and a mask.

Anyone with information about what happened can call Crime Stoppers at (9866) 634-8477.
