Manatee shooting suspect faces witness tampering charge

MANATEE -- A man wanted since October for shooting another man was arrested in Georgia and returned earlier this week to Manatee County, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Derrick K. Scott, 34, was arrested in Brunswick, Ga., on charges related to the Oct. 13 shooting of a man in the 900 block of 59th Avenue Drive East.. Scott also faces a charge of a tampering with a witness after he allegedly telephoned the victim in November and offered him money or whatever he needed in exchange for dropping the charges, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The victim was shot after Scott allegedly fired several shots from a vehicle.

The U.S. Marshal's Service arrested Scott on July 10 in Georgia. He was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail on charges of aggravated assault, weapons violations, witness tampering and probation violations.
