Home invaders steal pills

MANATEE — Two suspects committed a home invasion robbery at 6 p.m. Sunday by posing as Bright House Network employees.

The suspects came to the door of a home where an elderly man living on the 8200 block of Gretchen Place in Terra Siesta mobile home park and said they were working on a TV problem in the neighborhood, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Once inside the home, one suspect pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded his prescription pills, the report states.

The suspects took the victim’s bottle of oxycodone pills along with bottles of hydrocodone pills and other non-narcotic prescription pills.

The suspects also took a cordless phone handset and a cell phone, the report states.

The suspects fled in an older black vehicle towards Erie Road, the report states.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Boyfriend charged with attack on girlfriend’s father

BRADENTON — A Bradenton man was tasered and then arrested for battery against his girlfriend’s father early Sunday.

Donald Wasden, 24, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at 1 a.m. after he pushed the girlfriend at her home in the 4500 block of 57th Street West, Bradenton and then got into a dispute with the girl’s father.

Wasden also was charged with resisting arrest without violence.

Convicted felon arrested on warrant for having firearm

MANATEE — A Manatee County man was arrested at his home in the 3500 block of Seventh Avenue West on Saturday on a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The arrest of Troy Matthews, 26, stemmed from an armed burglary that occurred July 5, according to a sheriff’s report.

Sarasota County motorcyclists injured

MANATEE — Two Sarasota County residents had to be transported to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after their motorcycle collided with a Jeep in Englewood at 11:15 p.m. Friday.

Kevin Orf, 42, of Englewood, who was driving a motorcycle on State Road 776 near Quails Run Boulevard, was listed in critical condition, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Orf’s passenger, Melissa Johnston, 38, was listed in serious condition.

The accident occurred when a Jeep driven by a San Antonio, Texas woman was making a turn into a driveway access on South Indiana Avenue off southbound S.R. 776, the report states.

She turned into the path of the motorcycle, which was northbound on S.R. 776, according to the report.

Attempting to avoid a collision, Orf applied his brakes, but he struck the right front side of the Jeep and the impact caused him and his passenger to be ejected from their vehicle, the report adds.

Orf and Johnston were not wearing helmets, the report states.
