Palmetto child porn suspect has '83 conviction for lewdness with child

BRADENTON — A Palmetto man arrested Wednesday after authorities found an estimated 1,000 images of child pornography in his home has a prior sex offense against a child in Florida.

County Judge George Brown Jr. ordered Brian Perry, 50, held on $300,000 bond on more than 20 child porn charges at his first appearance in court after federal, state and local authorities Wednesday raided his home in the 2800 block of 49th Street East.

Prosecutors told Brown that Perry has a prior conviction in Florida for lewd and lascivious activity on a child in 1983. He is not a designated sex offender because Florida did not begin registering sex offenders until the 1990s, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website.

On Wednesday, member of the Florida Attorney General’s Office CyberCrime Task Force raided Perry’s home after Bradenton police detectives traced child pornography found on the Internet to his home, according to an attorney general’s report.

If Perry is able to bond out of jail, Brown ordered he is not to leave the county, and not to access the Internet. Prosecutors said they fear he is a flight risk because he recently traveled out of the country. Perry told Brown he had left the country for vacations.
