Manatee man charged with beating, robbing teen

MANATEE - An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday after he reportedly punched another man and stole his gold necklace, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Nelson J. Hernandez and the victim, also 18, were at a residence ii the 5500 block of 24th Street East, Bradenton, about 4 p.m. when Hernandez asked for a ride to pick up his girlfriend. When the victim said he couldn't give him a ride, Hernandez punched him in the face, causing the victim to fall into a metal fence and then to the ground, according to a news release.

Hernandez then jerked the necklace from around the victim's neck and fled on a bicycle, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies later arrested Hernandez.

As of this morning, Hernandez was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail on a robbery charge.
