Man robs Manatee motel

MANATEE — A Bradenton motel was robbed just after midnight this morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:20 a.m., a man parked a truck under the entry overhang at Roadway Inn, 2303 First St. He went inside and was making small talk with the 74-year-old clerk when he asked where the money was. He then said, "Give me the money or I will kill you," a news release states.

The clerk placed a cash drawer holding about $200 on the counter, and the suspect grabbed it and fled in the truck, heading south of First Street. The news release did not indicate whether a weapon was ever displayed.

The suspect was described as standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 140 to 150 pounds. He was wearing red shorts, a white hat, no shirt and a black jacket.
