Manatee man beaten, robbed outside his home

MANATEE - A 54-year-old man was beaten and robbed by three masked attackers outside his Palmetto-area home early this morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The robbery occurred in the 200 block of 45th Street Court West, Palmetto.

The man had just returned home about 2:50 a.m. and was exiting his vehicle when the suspects approached on foot and hit him several times about the head with a gun, causing two bumps, according to a news release. One of the suspects was carrying a chrome revolver and another, a small-caliber machine gun.

The victim fell to the ground and the attackers took $180 in cash and his identification. The suspects then rummaged through the victim's vehicle, taking several music CDs, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspects then fled in a green vehicle, possibly a Chrysler, southbound on U.S. 19.

Deputies searched the area but no arrests had been made.

The victim was treated for his injuries at Manatee Memorial Hospital and released.

The suspects were described as wearing black clothes, ski masks and gloves.
