Manatee deputies investigate stabbing at homeless camp

MANATEE - A homeless man received minor injuries when he was stabbed in the chest early this morning, possibly by another homeless man, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 2:25 a.m., two men were arguing at a homeless camp behind The Sports Authority sporting goods store, 201 Cortez Road, when one of the men took a knife and stabbed the other man in the chest, "causing a very superficial wound," a news release states

The victim then took the knife, gave it to his girlfriend and then left the area on his bicycle. He rode to his sister's residence, in the 1900 block of 30th Avenue East. The sister notified authorities about 45 minutes after the incident, according to the sheriff's office.

No arrest had been made, and the case remained under investigation.
