2 men hurt in drive-by shooting in Palmetto

MANATEE — Two men were injured in a drive-by shooting early this morning that may have been connected to a dispute during a party earlier in Palmetto, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

One of the victims had been driving in the 4500 block of U.S. 41 North, when his truck broke down, and several family members had come in another vehicle to help them.

About 2:40 a.m., a black Lincoln drove by and made several U-turns. On the last pass-by, someone in the car pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and fired several times, according to a news release.

The 31-year-old owner of the broken down truck was hit in the right ankle, and a 23-year-old man was struck in the right arm, right leg and right side of his abdomen. The injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives later learned that at least one of the shooting victims is related to someone who got into an argument during a party at a residence in the Blackburn area of Palmetto. After the argument, several people had left the party in a black sedan, according to the news release.

Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS.
