2 bound with tape during Palmetto home invasion

MANATEE — A man and a woman were bound with tape during a home invasion near Palmetto late Monday. The three attackers were apparently looking for drugs, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:55 p.m., three suspects ripped the door off a recreational vehicle parked behind a residence in the 4700 block of Fourth Avenue East, Palmetto, according to a news release.

The intruders knocked a 22-year-old woman to the ground and bound her with tape. They also knocked a 53-year-old man to the ground and began kicking him and "asking him where the drugs were," the release states. They then, too, bound him with tape.

The suspects then began searching the RV for drugs, and found some pills. They also took the victims' wallets and the man's cell phone and fled towards Fourth Avenue East, according to the sheriff's office.

A neighbor saw the door open, found the victims and called 911.

The male victim received treatment for some superficial cuts to his arms, but he was not hospitalized. No weapons were displayed during the attack, according to the sheriff's office.

One of the suspects was described as wearing blue jean shorts and a gray shirt, and one was described as wearing blue jeans and a long sleeve red shirt. There was no description given of the third suspect, the sheriff's office said.
