Man shot in Palmetto home invasion

MANATEE -- A 42-year-old man was shot in the arm during a home invasion in Palmetto early this morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 3:51 a.m., deputies responded to an abandoned 911 call made from a house in the 1200 block of 25th Street East, Palmetto. The front door had been kicked in, and the shooting victim was located in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to his right upper arm, according to a news release.

The victim told deputies that two people had broken into the house, but he couldn't understand them because he doesn't speak English, the sheriff's office said.

It was unknown if any property was taken during the break-in, and the other people in the residence were not injured.

The suspects -- one was described as standing 5 feet, 1 inch tall and the other 5 feet, 9 inches tall and both wearing dark clothing -- were not located. It is possible they fled westbound on 25th Street East in a silver 4-door Volkswagen Jetta or Passat, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
