Manatee sheriff: 2 teens admit to burglary

MANATEE -- Two teenage boys were arrested after they broke into a vacant house and did about $10,000 in damage to the residence, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The boys, ages 14 and 15, were arrested just outside the residence in the 2100 block of 55th Avenue East about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. They have admitted to the burglary and vandalism.

Deputies had responded after a neighbor reported what sounded to her like gunshots, according to the sheriff's office. As deputies approached, they also heard loud banging. The teens were spotted hiding in the tree line and were arrested.

An investigation revealed the suspects had entered through an unlocked back door and started smashing out all the windows, and putting holes in the walls with a rock and pipe. They also used a vacuum cleaner to smash out a sliding glass door, according to a news release.

The owner of the house was located in Oregon.
