Manatee sheriff: Drug dealer busted after he passes out in car

MANATEE - A 32-year-old man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after he was found passed out in a car parked at a local nightclub. In addition to drugs and a handgun, deputies found almost $11,000 in cash in the car, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy was driving by the Distellery, 108 44th Ave. E, about 3:22 a.m. when she noticed a Cadillac in the parking lot of the bar, which was closed.

She found Adam C. McDemid, of the 6900 block of 74th Street Circle East, passed out behind the wheel with the engine running. She saw a marijuana pipe in plain view on the center console, according to a news release.

The deputy awakened McDemid and had him exit the vehicle. She could smell the odor of burnt marijuana, according to the report.

During a search, the deputy found a loaded Glock pistol underneath the driver's seat. The gun had been reported stolen out of Palm Bay, according to the sheriff's office.

Also, the deputy found $5,939 in cash in a bag in the rear seat hatch that leads to the trunk, $3,100 in cash in a box and $1,695 in cash in McDermid's wallet. In the center console, the deputy found "a large amount" of Xanax, methodone and other prescription pills, according to the sheriff's office.

The cash, the news release states, is "all believed to be directly linked to the sale of prescription pills."

McDermid faces two counts of armed trafficking of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana and other related charges, according to the sheriff's office.
