Manatee sheriff: Woman arrested after robbing pharmacy of drugs

MANATEE - A 31-year-old woman was arrested this morning after she robbed a pharmacy of prescription drugs, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Kimberley Clowes walked into the Prescription Shop pharmacy, 5332 26th St. W., about 9:10 a.m., with a gun in her waistband, and handed over a note to an employee demanding various prescription drugs, including oxycodone, according to a news release.

"I do have a gun but don't want anyone hurt -- hurry," the note stated, in part, according to the sheriff's office.

The employee handed over four bottles of medicine, and Clowes fled northbound on foot towards the Garden Walk Condos, 5310 26th St. W., where she lives.

The victim and a witness chased after Clowes and found her behind a building attempting to consume a handful of stolen pills. However, the witness was able to knock most of them out of her hand, and the two held her down until deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said.

In an interview with a detective, Clowes admitted to the robbery, according to the news release.

At one point, Clowes said she was dizzy so she was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment, before being taken to the Manatee County jail.
