Manatee deputies: Man almost loses ear during drug deal, robbery

MANATEE - A 19-year-old man faces a possible drug possession charge, after he told deputies he was assaulted and robbed by a man who had gone to his house to buy marijuana, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The robbery occurred about 11:10 p.m. in the bedroom of a house in 3800 block of Ninth Avenue West.

During the assault, the victim suffered a laceration that almost severed his ear lobe. The robbery suspect, who had gone to the house to buy marijuana, took off with the victim's wallet and a large amount of marijuana, according to the sheriff's office.

During a search of the victim's residence, deputies found in the utility room 24 grams of marijuana with his blood on it. The victim admitted the container was his, but said the marijuana inside and the drugs that were stolen were not his.

Deputies filed capias requests asking the state attorney's office to consider charging the victim with drug possession, and the suspect - who was not located - with robbery.
