Man shot in shoulder, says it was robbery attempt

A man with a gunshot wound to his left rear shoulder was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg via ambulance around midnight Saturday, according to authorities.

The shooting was initially reported in the city limits from Bradenton Village in the 1600 block of Second Street West.

A woman stood outside a residence with two small children talking to Bradenton Police officers minutes after the call came in.

After several interviews, authorities determined the shooting most likely took place in the parking lot of Morning Glory Inc., a store near the corner of Ninth Street West and 30th Avenue West.

Bradenton Police Sgt. James Racky said the victim initially told police two men tried to rob him and steal a bracelet. When he refused, he was shot.

Manatee County Sheriff's Office will be handling the investigation since the shooting occurred in the county.

Manatee County Sheriff's Office Lt. Dale Couch, who was at the scene near the store, said detectives were still trying to determine what happened.

"We don't even know where it happened," he said, noting a clear parking lot with no easily visible evidence.

Anyone with any information can contact the sheriff's office at 747-3011 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS (8477).
