Man shot in E. Bradenton

BRADENTON — A man was shot, with a gun and with a Taser, and his son was pistol-whipped during a confrontation with two other men tonight in a East Bradenton neighborhood, according to Bradenton police.

The incident happened about 10 p.m. as the victims were standing in front of a duplex in the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue East. A motive for the confrontation had not been determined by detectives, according to police.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects pistol-whipped the younger victim. When a neighbor began throwing rocks at the attackers, the suspects fled to their vehicle, police said.

When the father, armed with a baseball bat, gave chase, one of the suspects opened fire, leaving the victim with non-life-threatening injuries, according police.

Father and son were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No arrests had been made as of late Tuesday.

The neighborhood where the incident occurred is just north of the Tropicana plant and south of the Old Manatee section of Bradenton. Lights from numerous police cars and other emergency vehicles lighted up the area as officers investigated the scene and interviewed possible witnesses.
