Two men were taken into custody Wednesday night after Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies observed a suspect brandish a rifle and approach a gas station, said Sgt. Jerry Crotty.
When the men noticed the deputy, they returned to a black Lincoln Town Car and left the BP Station in the 6800 block of 14th Street West.
Deputies in the area conducted a traffic stop on Bay Drive. One of the men in the car fled the scene and was later caught by a sheriff's dog.
The men were being questioned Wednesday night with charges of attempted armed robbery expected as well as traffic citations, Crotty said.
The incident remains under investigation.
