Good Samaritans break up purse snatching

MANATEE - Three good Samaritans thwarted a purse snatching early this morning outside a Cortez Road convenience store, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:58 a.m., the suspect grabbed a 43-year-old woman's purse outside the 7-Eleven store at 2011 Cortez Road and attempted to flee, according to a news release.

Three good Samaritans chased the suspect and tackled him. While on the ground, the suspect used a "stun gun" on one of the Samaritan's legs and broke free, the sheriff's office said.

As he fled south on 20th Street West, the suspect dropped the purse. It and all its contents were returned to the victim.

The suspect has not been located. No one was injured.

The suspect was described standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 125 pounds. He was wearing a brown shirt, black jeans and a blue hat, according to the sheriff's office.
