Sample of boy’s DNA taken in carjacking case

PALMETTO — A 15-year-old boy’s DNA sample was taken by Palmetto Police in an effort to prove the boy carjacked a Saturn Ion last week, according to a search warrant released Tuesday.

The Horizon Academy student, who lives in Ellenton, denied any involvement when interviewed by police, according to documents. At about 4 p.m. Jan. 28, a 17-year-old woman told police a man in a older brown vehicle exited and pointed a semi-automatic handgun in her face. He told her to get out of her car.

The woman told police she was stopped while heading east at a stop sign in the 1800 block of Fifth Street West. The man got into her car and left with the driver of the brown sedan following.

Police later stopped a 16-year-old boy driving a brown Oldsmobile matching the description. He admitted to being involved in the carjacking, according to documents.

Lewd and lascivious charge

MANATEE — A 31-year-old Bradenton man was arrested Monday on lewd and lascivious molestation charges after a girl made a complaint to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Travis Scott allegedly touched the girl inappropriately several times in 2002 or 2003 when she was getting out of the bath tub, according to an arrest warrant.

The girl told authorities that was the extent of their relationship. There have been numerous child protection services complaints with the family over the years, according to the report.

Travis denied the girl’s allegations when speaking with investigators. He said he believes the child was coerced into making the allegations against him.

As of Tuesday, he remained in jail on a $50,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office Web site.
