His story broke hearts across the country; a rescued pitbull puppy found with stab wounds died Thursday night at the veterinary office where he was being treated, according to reports.
Ollie died around 8:30 p.m., a veterinarian at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital told the Sun Sentinel. Medical staff at the office performed CPR on the dog for about an hour, but he did not survive.
The vet told the Sun Sentinel Ollie may have had too much inflammation from the stab wounds and trauma to his organs to recover. He had been through two surgeries already, according to television news station Local 10 News.
Ollie had been stabbed 50 times and beaten before he was shut inside a suitcase, according to reports.
Hollywood police found the puppy, severely injured, inside a suitcase early Tuesday morning. Police could hear him whimpering inside the suitcase and saw a paw sticking out.
They rushed him to the vet and named him Ollie. An investigation into who hurt the dog was opened.
PETA announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the person who fatally wounded Ollie.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hollywood Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 954-967-4411 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
