Investigators found fentanyl, meth, pot during search of stolen moped
Fentanyl and methamphetamine were discovered by investigators after a man was found to be driving a stolen moped, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Todd W. Carey, 32, is now facing several charges, including possession of fentanyl, after officials with the Special Investigations Division saw Carey on a moped around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 7-Eleven parking lot on 14th Street West, according to the probable cause affidavit.
They watched as Carey picked up two women, who rode on the back of his moped, until he stopped in the 1800 block of Ninth Avenue West, Bradenton, at the park along Ware’s Creek, according to the affidavit.
Officials approached Carey and the women in the park and saw him rolling a marijuana cigarette, which he tried to hide by placing it on the ground, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials also found that the moped Carey had been driving was reported stolen. Carey was arrested but gave a false name to detectives, according to the affidavit.
When investigators searched the moped, they found a pink plastic box under the seat. Inside the box were three small bags containing 0.2 grams of fentanyl, two bags containing two grams of pink meth, one bag containing 1.4 grams of clear meth, and one bag containing 0.8 grams of marijuana, according to the PCA. A glass marijuana pipe and a digital scale were also found under the seat.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 100 times more powerful than morphine.
Carey told investigators he was the one driving the moped as he was placed inside a sheriff’s office vehicle.
Carey faces several charges including possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, possession of paraphernalia, providing a false name to law enforcement officers, and was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without a license, according to the PCA and Manatee County jail records.
